Plant Progress

The tomatoes have really shot up in the last week so I wanted to give an update. The basil is still struggling and now has some curly leaf issue, not to mention I pulled some weird beetle/bug/creature off of it this morning and put it in a bag to identify later. The mint is also not doing so hot and I had to spray about a thousand aphids off of it today with the sink sprayer. The dill died. Maybe too early for dill. I got two new plants for my birthday though; an Oregano plant from Meghan and a Seedum from Nick. Mom got me a gardening book and it has some info on plant pests; I will have to consult to see what to do about the herb issues. They just don't seem to like the indoor environment but it hasn't been nice enough outside yet to put them out into the world.

Here is how they are looking:

Tomato plant showing a lot of progress. I am proud of this guy...he is getting big and stocky.

Dill...looking droopy. The dill went outside before the rains and didn't make it through the downpour and then the hot, hot weekend.

Tomato Colony...starting to see the beginnings of buds! I will have fruit soon!

Greens getting bigger and filling out the pot more...may need to replant in a bigger spot at some point?!

Birthday Seedum with the mysterious bug checking out the leaves. I don't know if it is a friend or foe yet so I left it on there until I know whether to drown it or let it eat the other parasites.

Pots of plants!

Mint--looking taller but not fuller. It has lost a lot of leaves lately. I sprayed it with Canola oil after reading that that can help with bugs; it didn't seem to help and turned the leaves into crispy chips which turned black and fell off. Today there were a zillion minute little aphids and I read you can hose them off...tried that...we'll see what happens.

Basil--looking a little more upright in the leaves but still not stellar. The baby leaves are curling up for some reason and there is some yellow splotches on the big leaves. Not sure about this either. Time to consult the master gardeners!

The cilantro is a success! It's looking good and loves the window sill. I'm not a total failure!
New oregano from Meghan, I put it in the window sill...but I don't know if it will stay there given the recent demise of the majority of the window sill plants. Not enough light and too many bugs up there!
